Emergency declared after polio found in Nassau County

This order would allow different type of facilitators like pharmacists, to administer the polio vaccine to make it easier to get.

But luckily its not denoting an outbreak. If there is any outbreak, the vaccine will prevent any further break.

Polio was recently identified in wastewater gathered in examples in Rockland, Orange and Sullivan regions and in New York City.

The strains recuperated in the wastewater in the past three districts and New York City were all hereditarily connected to the state's sole distinguished polio case.

During a press meet on Friday, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman stressed there is no polio case in the county.

"I don't want to alarm anybody, there are no cases of polio that has been discovered here in this region or in Nassau County," Blakeman said.

"Nobody should panic, there is no crisis right now, there is no active case of polio in Nassau County."

The Department of Health is requesting anyone who hasn't done yet so to get the polio vaccine.
