Thousands of PG&E customers in the Auckland area were temporarily without power on Thursday due to a major blackout.

PG&E said people first started reporting outages at 11 a.m. and at the peak, more than 24,000 customers were in the dark.

By 1 p.m., most customers had power restored and only 44 residences were without power, said Tamar Sarkissian, a PG&E spokesperson.
Around noon, PG&E’s outage map showed a large swath in the dark, an area loosely defined as stretching.
Between the Oakland Hills, the Oakland Estuary, Piedmont Avenue and Mills College at Northeastern University
Some took to social media to report the outage. Twitter users reported unpowered traffic stoplights and other issues.
Last month, a similar outage saw power cut to about 8,000 customers in Oakland before service was restored.
And in March, an outage cut power temporarily to as many as 32-thousand PGE customers.
A Tropical storm warning issued for south Texas to Boca de Catan, Port Mansfield, Mexico, according to the National Hurricane Center.
